Covid-19 and Queen's College update 11
Further to my letter of 31 May 2020 and Minister Angie Motshekga’s advices yesterday, I advise as follows:
1. School will re-open on Monday, 8 June 2020 for our Grade 12 learners.
2. All Grade 12 boarders need to check in to their boarding house on Sunday, 7 June 2020, between 14:00 and 18:00 only.
Our staff have been hard at work, to ensure that our Grade 12s have a hygienic and sanitised school and hostel to return to.
I confirm that all the Grade 12 parents were sent communication via e-mail with regard to the four Modules that the school has introduced with regard to Covid-19; and that the boarder parents also received Module 5 in respect of Hostel and Bisset rules, including all the precautionary measures taken; new rules set in place and inclusive of the new social distancing, sanitising and cleansing routines, which we have introduced. Should any boarder parents still have any queries, Mr Jacobs can be contacted on either pjacobs@queenscollege.co.za or on 084 899 7444.
In the interim, I can advise that the Matrics will re-commence their online lessons from Wednesday, 3 June 2020, using the current online teaching timetable. All Matrics needs to ensure that they are online and present at every lesson from Wednesday to Friday this week, as they cannot afford to miss any teaching time.
However, from Monday, 8 June 2020, a new timetable will be introduced, which encompasses teaching at school for the Grade 12s, as well as continuing with online teaching for Grades 8 – 11. The new timetable will be uploaded onto the various Grade WhatsApp groups this coming weekend; as well as onto the D6 Communicator.
The Matrics will need to report to the front of The Memorial Hall in College Avenue, between 07:20 and 07:30 this coming Monday. They will be screened (taking of temperature, asking of regulatory questions), where after they need to proceed directly to their Form Venue (your son will be notified later in the week which venue his class has been allocated to). Unfortunately, we will not be able to allow your son entry into the school grounds before 07:20, so kindly make arrangements accordingly.
Academic classes will end at 14:30 every day, and once the sanitising routine has been completed in your son’s form class, both he and all the teaching staff will have to vacate the school buildings, so that the cleaning staff can both clean and sanitise the venues, for them to be ready for the next morning. Kindly make the necessary arrangements for your son to be fetched timeously from school.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH NOT TO MAKE USE OF A SPRAY BOOTH/TUNNEL, SO YOUR SON WILL ONLY HAVE HIS HANDS SANITISED (BOTH AT THE BEGINNING AND END OF THE SCHOOL DAY).
Matrics will need to report to school wearing their OWN MASKS to school on day one. No mask, no entry. We have a marked visor and face masks for your son, which will be handed to him by his form teacher at the beginning of the day next Monday.
We encourage you to send your son to school with a small bottle of hand sanitiser in his blazer pocket.
DAY BOY PARENTS
PLEASE SEND YOUR SON TO SCHOOL WITH A PACKED LUNCH
AND SOMETHING TO DRINK.
(THE TUCK SHOP WILL REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE).
My staff and I have worked tirelessly and extremely hard with only your son’s best interests, health and safety at heart, as well as that of all of our staff members.
We at school cannot wait to welcome the Grade 12s back to our wonderful school.
